Braiding Sweetgrass
Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants
As a botanist, Robin Wall Kimmerer was trained to ask questions about nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Potawatomi Citizen Nation, I embrace the idea that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings together these perspectives of knowledge to demonstrate that the awakening of a broader ecological consciousness requires recognizing and celebrating our mutual relationship with the rest of the living world. Only when we can hear
the languages of other beings that we are able to understand the abundance of the earth and learn to offer our gifts in return.
